100 Heads Drawing Project

When I saw this 6000 Heads post on Drawn.ca, I was blown away by the variety of works, and the lack of preciousness in this exercise. As a tapestry weaver, I feel like I have become ruled by extensive planning and incredibly lengthy projects. With these sketches, I can just throw something together. It’s pretty freeing. and scary. But I’m enjoying the process, and parts of the drawings. I think as I go, I will start to like more of them.

Wow, I absolutely love your 100 heads! The variety and progression is really interesting, and makes for a wonderful gallery. So glad to have been pointed over here from Deacon’s blog. It’s always nice to get some fresh inspiration on a rainy Friday morning – now I’m away to get out the sketchbook and dash off a portrait – though whether or not I’ll do 100 is a different matter…

This is very cool and admirable. Just clicked through from Deacon’s last post to check it out. You guys have me thinking I need to put some “deliberate practice” into writing short interesting posts to increase my posting rate and help me learn to say more with less.

@Katie Thank you so much! I’m so glad you came by, and to sharing the sketching inspiration. Love your work, too, by the way! I shared a studio with a bunch of glass artists once and am super impressed by everything involved in it!

@Carlos Thanks! Interesting idea – that’d be awesome to read and hear about the process.

Hey… Daviduk sent this to me!!! I love the drawings.
You have inspired me! I think I will try this. Is there some place on the web I can read about this or should I just start.
Have you seen Alice Neel’s paintings. Some of your drawings remind me of her work.

@Louanne Thanks! This post on Drawn.ca (awesome, awesome site) is where I first heard about this. http://drawn.ca/2007/10/10/6000-heads/ Check out the flickr page it links to. A very Awe-inspiring collection of artwork.
Wow, I LOVE Alice Neel’s work. Thanks for introducing me to her.

Oh, oh, oh! I love this 100 heads project. More than that, I love what you say about being less ‘precious’ and more light – throwing something together.

I tend to make things I love more when I let myself be guided by intuition, switch off, forget about the outcome and kind of tune-out.

Although I have to say you are VERY clever that you are capable of planning big, extensive projects! Wow!
