Jen Hiebert is a weaver, educator and artist who was born, raised, and works on the unceded, traditional and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) and the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem First Nation). Her family includes immigrant settlers of Danish, English, and Mennonite heritage and Métis from Batoche and Red River.
Jen studied weaving at Place des Arts in Coquitlam and graduated from the former Textile Arts program at Capilano University in North Vancouver. Her work has been included in exhibitions with the BC and Alberta Craft Councils, Maple Ridge Art Gallery, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and various galleries around the Vancouver area. Her work and teaching focus on the relationships between material and process, how we learn and explore while making, and the problem-solving that emerges when working with new and ancient technologies. She works at Emily Carr University of Art + Design as a Studio Technician in the Soft Shop and with the TC2 digital Jacquard loom in the Material Matters TARP lab.
